ACE Program training offered free to build career pathways
Chillicothe, OH – The Appalachian Career Empowerment (ACE) Training Program, an innovative workforce development initiative led by USW Local 689 in partnership with the Southern Ohio Diversification Initiative (SODI), is now enrolling for classes to be held at Ohio University Chillicothe. The program equips individuals with in-demand skills for careers in advanced manufacturing and supply chain logistics.
These no-cost classes begin on August 19 and run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. through October 9.
Featuring nationally recognized curriculum from the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC), the ACE Training Program offers participants the opportunity to earn the Certified Production Technician (CPT)® 4.0 certification—an industry-respected credential that sets job seekers apart in a competitive market. The curriculum includes modules on AI & Robotics, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, Management Principles & Blue Print, and more, providing a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing industry.
“Advanced manufacturing continues to evolve, and with it comes the need for a workforce that is trained, adaptable, and forward-thinking,” said ACE Program Director Herman Potter. “The ACE program delivers that foundation.”
Thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, the classes and initial assessments are offered at no cost. The program is open to junior and senior high school students, as well as adult learners, making it an accessible option for those looking to enter or pivot into high-paying, high-growth fields.
In addition to classroom and lab-based instruction, participants benefit from connections to a robust network of employer partners co-located at the PORTS site, including:
Centrus Energy Corp
Fluor-BWXT
Mid-America Conversion Services
Oklo
Trillium H2 Power
These partners recognize that this training meets real-world demands and provides pathways to employment through hands-on learning, exposure to advanced technologies, and access to high-quality career opportunities.
Enrollment is now open, and space is limited.
