U.S. Labor dept awards $2 million for paper mill workers
The U.S. Department of Labor today awarded $2 million to Ohio to support employment and training services for workers affected by the closure of the Pixelle Specialty Solutions LLC Chillicothe Paper Mill.

Employers and jobseekers will come together on Thursday, October 16 for the annual Fairfield County Job Fair, sponsored bu Ohio Means Jobs, the Fairfield County Workforce Center, and the Pickerington Area and Fairfield County chambers of commerce.
State Patrol offers civilian opportunities
The Ohio State Highway Patrol has scheduled a civilian recruitment effort for Tuesday, September 23, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Jackson Commercial Standards facility on 25 McCarty Lane, Jackson, Ohio 45640.
ACE Program training offered free to build career pathways
Ohio University Chillicothe is partnering with the USW Local 689 to provide training at their campus starting August 19 so that it can easily be accessed by Pixelle workers. The training provides a advanced manufacturing certificate that is sought after by employers hiring at the PORTS site in Pike County, and by manufacturers across the country. If residents had to go to a community college for this training, it usually would cost around $2,500.
