Paper mill response task force wins award
Among the winners was the combined response from Chillicothe and Ross County that went into the aftermath of the April 15 by Pixelle Specialty Solutions to close the Chillicothe Mill. The Paper Mill Response Task Force won Best Partner from OhioSE.
The Task Force was honored for mobilizing an extraordinary public-private partnership to respond to the Chillicothe Mill closure, support displaced workers, and position the site for future redevelopment.
SUCCESS STORY: former mill worker finds training for next job
Former paper mill worker turned to the Scioto Valley Forward Workforce Hub, which was established temporarily at the Chillicothe Public Library through a partnership between the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services and other local agencies and organizations. There she explored opportunities, attended meetings, and decided to pursue a college degree.
Workforce hub will move to service center
Beginning Sept. 30, all services provided in the Scioto Valley Forward Workforce Hub will move to the OhioMeansJobs Center in the Ross County Service Center.
U.S. Labor dept awards $2 million for paper mill workers
The U.S. Department of Labor today awarded $2 million to Ohio to support employment and training services for workers affected by the closure of the Pixelle Specialty Solutions LLC Chillicothe Paper Mill.
